Microsoft Overhauls SkyDrive for Mobile, Desktop Platforms

Microsoft today announced sweeping updates to its SkyDrive cloud-based storage service. Microsoft recently updated SkyDrive for the Windows Phone platform, but today announced a similar update for the iOS version of SkyDrive, which brings the same file access features to the iPhone/iPad that are available to Windows Phones. Microsoft has also changed the amount of storage available for free. Previously, it offered 25GB to users for free, but now it only offers 7GB. Microsoft maintains that this still covers 99.9% of all SkyDrive users' storage needs. Users can choose to buy more storage for $10, $20 or $50 per year for 20GB, 50GB, or 100GB, respectively. (Users already signed up for 25GB of free storage will be able to keep their service as-is.) Microsoft also released new Windows and Mac clients, and made changes to SkyDrive.com.
