Sprint CEO: Industry Has to Deal with the Duopoly
Sprint CEO Dan Hesse today said that he believes further consolidation in the wireless telecommunications industry is good and even necessary -- as long as the nation's two largest wireless network operators aren't involved. "We're certianly working very hard to compete with AT&T and Verizon," said Hesse. "The industry has to deal with the issue of the duopoly. The gap beween the number two and number three players is enormous. We always have been and always will be open to further consolidation, as long as it isn't AT&T or Verizon Wireless." Hesse said that it is fine for smaller companies, including Sprint, to consolidate, but the current duopoly is "not healthy" for the industry.
