Schott's Xensation Glass Apes Corning's Gorilla Glass
Schott today announced that its Xensation Cover glass will appear in smartphones and tablets later this year. Schott, which is based in Germany, says that its Xensation Cover glass "is able to consistently reach compressive stress values which are greater than comparable materials on the market." Xensation Cover glass is an alumino-silicate glass that is scratch-resistant, durable, and has a 20% higher bending strength than competing glass products, says Schott. Schott also claims that its manufacturing process for Xensation Cover glass is faster than that of competing products, without sacrificing quality. It believes this can help reduce the overall cost of handsets and tablets. The company declined to name what devices will make use of Xensation Glass first.
