Samsung Joins the Linux Foundation

Samsung today announced that it has joined the Linux Foundation as a platinum member and will sit on the organization's Board of Directors. Samsung uses several versions of mobile Linux, including that contained within Android and its Tizen platform. By joining the Linux Foundation, Samsung is committing to support the open source platform and contribute to the kernel community, as well as adopt open source best practices and take more control over an operating system that powers its smartphones and tablets. According to the Linux Foundation, Samsung will "attack Apple's position" with two different Linux-based products (Android and Tizen). The move should also help Samsung lower its development costs.
