Nokia Refutes Google's Collusion Claims

Nokia today responded to Google's accusations that it is colluding with Microsoft in order to side-step patent agreements. "Though we have not yet seen the complaint, Google's suggestion that Nokia and Microsoft are colluding on intellectual property rights is wrong," said Nokia spokesman Mark Durrant. "Both companies have their own intellectual property rights portfolios and strategies and operate independently. Nokia has made regular patent divestments over the last five years. In each case, any commitments made for standards essential patents transfer to the acquirer and existing licenses for the patents continue." Google alleges that the two companies have sold off some of their intellectual property to patent trolls, which are now litigating those patents and driving up to the costs of making mobile devices.
