FCC Strikes Spectrum Deal with Mexico That Helps Sprint

The Federal Communications Commission today announced that the U.S. State Department and the government of Mexico have come to an agreement over the use of 800MHz and 1900MHz spectrum near the U.S.-Mexico border. The agreement mostly centers on assigning bands within the 800MHz block to public safety agencies so that there's no interference between U.S.- and Mexican-run public safety agencies. However, another piece of the agreement allows Sprint to deploy CDMA cellular service in the 1900MHz band along the border with Mexico. This should increase the coverage available to Sprint's customers who live near the border.
