Symbian to be Phased Out

Nokia explained today as part of its new partnership with Microsoft that Symbian won't be canned immediately. Nokia will continue to enhance and tweak Symbian using its Qt development platform so that it may continue to support its installed base. Nokia plans to release more Symbian handsets this year. However, Symbian's place in Nokia's device portfolio will be be phased out over time until Windows Phone 7 accounts for 100% of its smartphones. Nokia did not indicate how long this process will take. Nokia's MeeGo platform will be relegated to "experimental" status, which Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said it still hopes to learn from.(follow link to read)
