Verizon: No Windows Phone 7 for Us at Launch

Verizon Wireless has indicated that it will not be one of the first carriers to offer Microsoft's yet-to-be-released Windows Phone 7 platform, which is set to launch later this fall. Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney told BusinessWeek that it will probably support the Windows Phone 7 platform at some point in 2011, but didn't specify when. Microsoft first announced Windows Phone 7 in February, and has recently made the Gold Master available to phone makers. Earlier today, Microsoft announced that it has finalized the tools that developers need to create applications for Windows Phone 7 devices. Microsoft is expected to launch its new smartphone line in the coming weeks. Earlier this year, Verizon Wireless ceased selling Microsoft's Kin line of devices after a few weeks. Despite the Kin debacle, Raney said that Verizon's relationship with Microsoft is solid.
