Microsoft Targeting NFC for Next Version of Windows Phone
According to sources cited by BusinessWeek, the next version/update of Windows Phone from Microsoft will support mobile payments using near-field communications (NFC). BusinessWeek's sources didn't say when this update might be available, and implied that Microsoft would look to Nokia to help it add this component to its smartphone platform. Nokia supports NFC-based mobile payments, and recently released a handset with NFC built in in the U.S. (Astound / C7). Google is already backing NFC-based mobile payment systems in Android, as are a number of carriers and hardware makers through a joint venture called Isis. (follow link to read)
