Research In Motion will benefit in the near term from the ongoing launch of its new BlackBerry 7 smartphones, which are being�described�as the vendor’s�strongest devices in some time. Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu upgraded his rating on RIM stock to Buy from Neutral, increasing his price target to $35 from $28. Personal subtitle glasses from Sony may get trial run in UK next year

It's been quite a while since we've heard any news about those spiffy specs that put private subtitles in your field of view. It looks like they're finally inching closer to reality though, with some help from Sony's UK arm. The BBC recently took hard-of-hearing Brit Charlie Swinbourne to the theater and let him give the glasses a go. Rather than displaying subtitles on screen the eye-wear projects text on the lenses where only that particular user can see them. Going to see a French film in an American cinema, but your first language is Spanish? One day you could pick your language, in addition to keeping the captions out of other movie goers way. Wal-mart cuts price of 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle

Joystiq posted a picture earlier in which Wal-Mart had discounted the price of the 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle.

The picture led to speculation that Microsoft would do an across-the-board price cut on their consoles following Sony's recent price cut on the PlayStation 3.

For the week beginning August 28th, Wal-Mart is slashing the price $50 to $249, in-line with the PS3 (non-bundled).

Microsoft has responded to the price cut, saying:

Walmart made an independent decision to implement this temporary price cut. We've made no announcements about price drops, and do not discuss our pricing plans in advance. Xbox is the number-one selling console in the U.S. for 13 of the past 14 months, and is showing record growth. Ubisoft removes always-on DRM from 'From Dust'

Ubisoft's highly anticipated "From Dust" has been met with massive criticism since launch.

The game, like all new Ubisoft titles, comes with the draconian "always-on" Internet connection DRM.

If you ever have a connection hiccup, or just plain lose service, you are returned to the main menu. With the DRM, you cannot play games offline, even in "single player" modes. This has happened multiple times where an Ubisoft authorization server has gone down, leaving legitimate players standing idle while those with pirated copies play happily.

Additionally, From Dust is currently missing graphics options, is extremely buggy, and is capped at 30fps, no matter what GPU you are running.

As of writing, Ubisoft has listened to the significant outcry about the game and will be sending out a patch in the next two weeks to remove the always-on DRM. Furthermore, they are offering a full refund to Steam users who purchased the game and "are dissatisfied."Permalink | Comments

Panasonic Lumix FX90 point-and-shoot packs built-in WiFi, Android / iPhone app compatibility

For many photographers, in-camera WiFi may be an attractive feature before you leave the store, but confusing setup and limited functionality reduce its appeal once you actually go and try to use it. Panasonic sets out to better take advantage of wireless connectivity with its Lumix FX90, adding Android and iPhone app support for transferring pictures and video directly to a mobile device, then uploading them to Lumix Club -- a cloud-based photo-sharing service -- and on to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. You can also share photos directly from the camera -- a dedicated WiFi button launches a menu prompting you to select a sharing service -- but app support brings the added benefit of your phone's data connection. Beyond those new wireless features, the FX90 includes a 12 megapixel CCD sensor, 5x, 24-120mm optical zoom lens, 3-inch touchscreen, and 1080i AVCHD video capture.
