Facebook Adds Voice Messaging to Android/iOS Apps

Facebook today announced new versions of its Android and iOS messenger applications will soon offer a significant new feature: the ability to leave voice messages. In addition to taking photos or sending instant messages, the Facebook Messenger app can be used to record and send short voice messages to other Facebook users. The messages are sent via the mobile device user's data plan. Facebook is also beta testing VoIP-based, phone-to-phone calling within Facebook Messenger, though the beta is limited to customers in Canada. Facebook hasn't said if it will enable VoIP via Facebook Messenger in the U.S. The updated apps will be available for download from the Google Play Store and iTunes beginning later today. Both are free.
