Nokia Slashes Series 40 Replacement Platform
Nokia has cancelled plans to replace its Series 40 platform with a new Linux-based system called Meltemi, reports Reuters. Citing three sources familiar with Nokia's plans, Reuters says the Meltemi project was cancelled as part of Nokia's on-going cost-cutting measures. Meltemi was meant to help Nokia fend off low-cost Android handsets in developing markets, which is where Nokia sells the bulk of its Series 40 handsets. Series 40 has been around for nearly a decade, and is currently sold in Nokia's Asha line of devices. Nokia did not comment on Reuters' report.
