Samsung Debuts Exynos 4 Quad, the Next Galaxy's Engine
Samsung today said that it will use its own, new quad-core Exynos chip in the next Galaxy smartphone, which the company is expected to unveil at an event in London next week. The Exynos 4 Quad is made with a 32nm processes, which provides power savings, and can switch the separate cores on and off, as well as ramp their frequencies up and down to conserve power further. The chip is based on ARM's Cortex A9 design with each core clocked at 1.4 GHz. Samsung believes the Exynos 4 Quad can handle tasks such as 3D games, video editing, and calculation-intensive simulations. Samsung said that it is already sampling the processor to other handset makers in the hopes of winning business away from other chipmakers such as Qualcomm, Nvidia, and Texas Instruments.
